Artist Statement: This is a little misdirection joke to kick-off baseball season. Like many other sports, baseball has its own glossary of terms that are unique. Among them: stealing bases. I attended many minor-league games in Durham, North Carolina. The manager of the home-team Bulls wouldn't hesitate to get in the face of an umpire who he thought had made a bad call. Upon ejection, he'd pluck first base off the ground, tuck it under his arm and stalk off to the locker room. The crowd loved it.

About the Artist: John Cole is an all-star, widely recognized and award-winning cartoonist and illustrator, who served as the longtime editorial cartoonist for The Herald-Sun (Durham, NC) and The Times-Tribune (Scranton, PA).
